Warranty Policy

Our Promise

African stories.
Brighter spaces.

Effective Date: September 2026

At AfroLamps, we take pride in producing lighting pieces that combine natural materials, precision manufacturing and skilled hand-finishing.

Our products are made using a combination of precision machine turning, joined natural wood components, careful assembly and hand-finishing. We stand behind the quality of our products and provide the following warranty, subject to the terms below and applicable South African consumer protection law.

1. Warranty Coverage

AfroLamps provides a 6-month workmanship warranty from the date of purchase.This warranty covers qualifying defects in materials and workmanship arising under normal intended use.

Depending on the nature of the problem, this may include:

- Structural defects in the wooden lamp base;
- Failure of a properly constructed or bonded wooden component attributable to a manufacturing defect;
- Defects in the wood finish attributable to workmanship;
- Defects in lampshade construction, stitching or mounting;
- Defects in the lamp holder;
- Defects in internal wiring or switch assembly; and
- Other manufacturing defects covered by the applicable product warranty.

Natural variations in wood grain, colour, texture and markings are not, by themselves, considered defects.

2. What Is Not Covered

The warranty does not cover damage resulting from:

- Normal wear and tear;
- Accidental damage;
- Misuse or abuse;
- Improper installation or use;
- Unauthorised modification or repair;
- Damage caused by water or excessive moisture;
- Prolonged exposure to excessive heat or direct sunlight;
- Use of incompatible bulbs or electrical equipment;
- Damage resulting from unsuitable voltage or electrical supply;
- Failure to follow the AfroLamps Product Care Guide;
- Damage caused by moving, dropping or otherwise mishandling the lamp; or
- Use of the product outside its intended indoor environment.

Natural movement or changes in wood caused by unsuitable environmental conditions may also fall outside the warranty where they result from inappropriate storage, use or care.

3. Natural Wood & Bonded Construction

Our wooden bases may be constructed by joining multiple pieces of the same type of natural wood before the material is precision-turned and finished.

Because wood is a natural material, variations in:

- grain;
- colour;tone;
- texture; and
- natural markings

are expected.

These characteristics are not automatically defects.

However, a genuine manufacturing or workmanship failure is not excluded simply because the product is made from natural wood.

Where a bonded wooden component fails because of a manufacturing or workmanship defect, the matter will be assessed under this Warranty Policy and applicable consumer protection law.

4. Electrical Components

Our current products generally use E27 lamp holders, unless otherwise stated on the individual product page.

The warranty covers qualifying defects in the electrical components supplied as part of the AfroLamp.

It does not cover damage caused by:

- incompatible bulbs;
- incorrect voltage;
- electrical surges;
- unauthorised electrical modification;
- damaged external electrical components caused after delivery; or
- improper installation or use.

If you notice a fault with the electrical components, stop using the lamp and contact AfroLamps rather than attempting to repair it yourself.

Please include:

Subject: Warranty Claim – [Order Number]

and provide:

- Your order number or proof of purchase;

6. Assessment of Warranty Claims

Some warranty claims may require the product to be inspected before a final resolution can be determined.

AfroLamps may request photographs, video or return of the affected product or component for assessment.

Customers should not attempt to repair, reglue, modify or disassemble the affected component before contacting us, as this may make it more difficult to determine the cause of the failure.

7. Warranty Resolution

Where a claim is approved under the AfroLamps warranty, we may, depending on the circumstances and applicable law:

- Repair the affected component;
- Replace the affected component;
- Replace the product; or
- Provide another appropriate remedy.

Where applicable consumer protection legislation gives the consumer a specific remedy or choice, that legislation will take precedence over this policy.

8. Shipping & Warranty Claims

Where a warranty claim is approved, AfroLamps will handle applicable shipping or return arrangements in accordance with the applicable warranty and consumer protection requirements.

We will provide instructions before a product is returned.

Customers should not send products to an address unless AfroLamps has provided return instructions.

9. Warranty Period & Consumer Rights

Our 6-month warranty does not replace or reduce any consumer rights that apply under South African law.

10. Warranty Exclusions & Consumer Rights

Nothing in this Warranty Policy is intended to exclude, restrict or waive any consumer right that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited.

Where there is a conflict between this policy and a mandatory consumer protection requirement, the applicable law will prevail.

11. Original Purchaser

For AfroLamps’ 6-month workmanship warranty, proof of purchase is required.

Where products are purchased through an authorised retailer, the customer should retain the retailer’s proof of purchase and contact the appropriate seller or AfroLamps as directed.
