Thando brings together handcrafted wood and a shade inspired by the visual language of Xhosa cultural dress and textile expression.

The Urn Pedestal wooden base gives the lamp a strong, elegant presence. Its rounded central form and turned detailing create a sense of balance and craftsmanship, while the deep Burnt Mahogany finish highlights the natural character of the wood and gives the lamp a warm, sophisticated appearance.

Above it, the black-and-white drum shade carries a bold diamond-based geometric pattern.

The pattern and contrasting colours draw from the visual language through which traditional clothing communicates cultural identity. In Xhosa traditional attire, patterns, designs and beadwork form important elements of cultural expression, with Umbhaco being an important material and form of traditional dress.
